2000 Chateau Clarke Listrac Medoc Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux
Since 1973, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, owner of Lafite Rothschild bought over this property. Following the change of ownership, the expertise from Lafite Rothschild re-planned the whole vineyard and vowed to restore the glory of this chateau. Edmond has a particular love for Chateau Clarke, he chose to be buried in Chateau Clarke upon his death. Vintage 2000 is a well known vintage for Bordeaux, thus I expected a decent outcome of this bottle. Upon a whiff, I wasn’t disappointed, leather and graphite were very prominent. Content was a very typical Bordeaux taste, almost by the textbook; loads of black currant mingled with black cherry, a bit earthy and dry, but I believe it can easily compete with any classified growths, and still tasted better than them. Lastly, this wine is still at it’s adolescence stage, you can definitely keep and age this bottle for the next 3 decades effortlessly.
