2020 Philippe Colin Bourgogne Chardonnay

9/10 stars

Not many winemakers actually age their Bourgogne in oak, Philippe Colin’s Bourgogne Chardonnay is probably an odd one out there, aging their Bourgogne for 11 months in French oak and transfer to tank where it rested for 2 months before a light filtration and bottling. The grapes were sourced from several of their own estate vineyards located in Chassagne-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin. A whiff and one is able to decipher the lively acidity and fruity character. Content wise, I really enjoyed the lively and fresh acidity, the body is a bit light on fruits, although it’s a good expression and not shy in anyway, I guess the oak was in play in the background. I highly recommend this Bourgogne as it’s not just an average Bourgogne out there, it can easily be a top league Bourgogne, even at this lowest level of their white wine hierarchy, we can only get hold of very limited stock, it’s not like what most people thought, unlimited supply for Bourgogne. Thus, it’s really great price to value ratio.
