Allen Meadows Burghound - 98 Points
The '96 Ramonet Montrachet is a monumentally scaled yet uncannily elegant and pure wine with an impressively scaled nose of limestone| citrus and white flowers of almost indescribable complexity that is followed by dense| rich and beautifully nuanced big-bodied flavors all wrapped in endless reserves of mid-palate sap. The backend displays simply astonishing persistence that stains the palate and the stunning intensity is almost painful because the acidity of the '96 vintage is pronounced yet there is more than enough sève to balance it. In sum| this is a genuinely great wine of power| finesse| detail and riveting class. This rivals the DRC Montrachet and the Niellon Chevalier for wine of the vintage honors. For my taste| this has very little additional upside to realize and it is no longer infanticide to begin drinking this superb Monty.
