2020 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc

Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars

This is a wine that we purchase regardless of vintage, as Smith Haut Lafitte has mastered the art of making great wines under any terroir circumstances. This second wine of Smith Haut Lafitte blanc is a blend of 80% sauvignon blanc and 20% semillon. A whiff and I can easily detect white floral character with mandarin orange and thick pomelo skins. It’s difficult not to enjoy this blanc, a sip and most people will agree with me the fruits are thick and flavorful with a long mineral finish. Happy to enjoy this all year round, it’s a very honest wine made for consumption with a reasonable price tag. 

2022 Chateau Closiot Bordeaux Blanc

A couple of years ago, our favourite winemaker Jean-Marie Guffens Heynen, who owns the famed burgundy label Verget, bought over Chateau Closiot which is located in Barsac, Bordeaux. Along with the purchase, Guffens Heynen also brought along his deep knowledge of burgundy winemaking skills, and I am able to tell the difference between the wines made by previous owner compared to Guffens Heynen’s technique. The wine is composed of 60% Semillon and 40% Sauvignon Blanc, bouquet is of very fruity aromas of ripe fruit of dried apricot and honey. The content is of definitive Bordeaux style of powerful fruits with styles being elegant and a touch of finesse, the elegance is probably a style infused by Guffens Heynen winemaking style. 

NV Saint Reol Grand Cru Rose

The rose is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, color is pinkish yet lighter than most Rose. Bouquet possessed a very light and soft blend of strawberries and cherries. Content wise, similar to the nose, a very shy blend of strawberries and cherries. I must confess this rose is not a love at first sip type, it’s not a champagne for party that tries hard to attract people to drink, rather, it’s a connoisseur champagne to be slowly appreciated; It has to be appreciated and evaluated over the sipping of the whole bottle, the length is stunning and only revealed itself at later stage, the fruit is soft and shy, very connoisseur champagne, cheers!
