Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars

Normally one would have used Bordeaux stemware for Bordeaux wines, however, I do have respect for Smith Haut Lafitte’s blanc, as I think they produce very good quality whites, thus I took a Grassl Cru and Liberte to do a heads-on comparsion. Obviously, using Cru (a big bowl burgundy glass) caused the flavor to be dispersed, while Liberte retained all the great flavor of this white, and also more focused. The bouquet was very Bordeaux driven: oily with very faint lemon zest. Content was really stunning, multi-dimensional fruits and many shades of flavor, very long finishing. Perhaps the not-so-obvious weakness was the lack of lively acidity, as the acidity was acting on the background, but that’s definitive character of Bordeaux whites. (10/2020)

James Suckling - 96 Points

This is fabulous. It's a white that is so vertical with wonderful depth of fruit and structure. It goes on for minutes. Dense and complex. It's so structured and amazing. Peaches and mineral with a salty and savory character. It is captivating to taste now. (4/2013)

Wine Enthusiast - 95 Points

A richly rounded wine, impressively dense and powerful. Its ripe tropical and green fruits are integrating well with the toast from wood aging to give great swathes of complex fruit and structure. This is a wine for the long haul. (10/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 95 Points

Under the capable hands of the Cathiard family, this property has been producing fabulous red and white wines. The 2012, another brilliant effort, exhibits notes of orange rind, figs, mangoes, pineapples and caramelized citrus presented in a full-bodied, heady, powerful style. It should drink well for 15-20 years. (4/2013)
