Tower Club Wine & Whisky 2023 Best Of The Best Award - Top 3 Red Wines

Tower Club Wine & Whisky 2023 Gold Award - Old World Red Wine

"I recognize that I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have this job, and the privilege of tasting so many incredible wines, but certainly the efforts produced by Domaine du Caillou since 1998 rank among the most exciting I have ever tasted." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

From robust Côtes-du-Rhône to memorable Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Clos du Caillou wines arguably represent some of the finest values in all of France. Proprietor Sylvie Vacheron and winemaker Bruno Gaspard are keeping the great work of the late Jean-Denis Vacheron alive with wines that are heady, robust and mouth-wateringly lush.

Caillou tends wonderfully old Grenache vines, some of which are 70 to 100 years old. With older Syrah and Mourvèdre added to the mix, it’s no wonder that Caillou wines are across the board impressive for their power, extract and deep minerality. The estate’s Chateauneuf terroir borders the impressive domaines of Chateau Rayas and Beaucastel.

Jeb Dunnuck - 94 Points

Mostly Grenache with 15% Syrah brought up in foudre and old barrels, the 2019 Côtes Du Rhône Les Quartz tastes like a Châteauneuf du Pape as opposed to a Côtes du Rhône and offers a powerful bouquet of red and black fruits, melted licorice, and peppery garrigue. With loads of Provençal charm, full-bodied richness, and supple tannins, it's already hard to resist, and I see no need to delay gratification. Drink this beautiful Côtes du Rhône over the coming 5-7 years. (10/2020)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 92 Points

The 2019 Côtes du Rhône Les Quartz smells like the sun-baked stones typical of the region, coated in herbal essences and then immersed in crushed black cherries. It's full-bodied and dark-fruited, expansive in the mouth, yet given structure by a dusting of coarse tannins. It looks to be another fine vintage for this cuvée. (9/2020)
