This is made from 2/3 Semillon and the rest Sauvignon Gris with a little Sauvignon Blanc. It was vinified entirely in barrel with 25% new oak. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The nose is smoky and complex in this year's C de Sec, a little matchstick reduction complementing notes of beeswax, baked apple and mandarin. Fleshy on the palate, with honeyed peach and lemon curd, there is more toasty struck flint in an energetic and impressively deep wine for a hot vintage. Long and spicy on the finish, Jean-Marie Guffens has woven his magic into this dry Barsac, it offers excellent value for money at this price point. (Apr 2023)
