Wine By Bok - 9.25/10 Stars
A Cru Bourgeois classification, this wine performed beyond my expectation and certainly if you blind me, I would think this has to be a classified growth. The quality easily surpassed some classified Bordeaux labels, taste it to believe! Perhaps the great vintage of 2016 is in play, or perhaps the winemaking skill has improved tremendously. The wine was 67% Cabernet Sauvignon – 27% Merlot – 4% Petit Verdot – 2% Cabernet Franc, however, there was no greenness of the Cabernet grapes at all, thus I would have been aptly fooled thinking this would have been a right bank wine. The bouquet was of ultra-ripe red fruit dominated mingled with faint smoke. Palate wise, very rounded, very matured fruits, with tannins all being masked behind the French oak barrel, thus I would say you wouldn’t feel the irritating tannins lurking around, perhaps it’s made for early drinking, but I was certain it can age for 20 years or longer effortlessly. If there’s a re-classification of 1855, I would not be surprised to see this wine ranking fifth growth or better! (29/12/2022)
