2019 Chateau Taillefer - 750ml
Château Taillefer is one of the oldest properties in Pomerol dating back to 1785, and interestingly it was also the first property purchased by the Moueix dynasty. The family of Christian Moueix is one of the most iconic wine families in the world, owning such notables as Dominus Estate and Château Pétrus, one of the greatest Bordeaux houses in history…

Current owner is Bernard Moueix, who is Antoine Moueix great-grandson. Antione was the key personnel who bought over the famed Petrus back in 1929, while Antione also bought Chateau Taillefer back in 1925. I’m sure Antione has certain eyesight and criteria for buying these two great plots of vineyard in Pomerol. I have tasted many vintages of Petrus in the past, while I must confess there isn’t much similarity between Petrus and Taillefer, it’s still a very decent quality wine. Composed of mainly 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, there was no trace of Cabernet Franc when I had my sip, as it was predominantly overwhelmed by the Merlot composition. It’s a very easy-going wine, with red ripe plums and good soft texture, it seemed to possess an early drinking wine, but knowing Merlot coming from Pomerol, they can easily age for half a century without blinking an eyelid. I would recommend drinking this wine over the next decade, as the pleasant structure is very suitable to drink young. If you wish to age it, I also think it’ll be quite an ideal candidate. Upon the advice from the winemaker, he said the best time to taste the wine is 4 hours after opening the bottle, thus I chucked the bottle back to my cellar and retasted it during dinner. Truly, the wine was so much more flavourful and almost double the enjoyment factor, I did not hesitate to highly recommend to fans who are looking for a good Pomerol bottle with decent price!

Herbal nose with bramble aromas and delicate perfume to the red and black fruits. The palate is full of blue fruits with liquorice and dark chocolate nuances. I like its serious nature, it's bold and well defined. Smooth tannins support the fruit and do well to provide a large, muscular frame that compliments the sensuous core of dark fruit flavours. A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, delicate rim. Sweet plum fruit, a touch of dried figs, delicate herbal savouriness, a hint of nougat. Medium complexity, sweet cherries, ripe tannins, chocolatey touch on the finish, already well developed.
