Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars

Pierre Amiot Aux Charmes, Morey St Denis 2019 versus Olivier Guyot Les Sorbets, Morey St Denis, 2019

A battle between two stronghold labels we carry, both from Morey-Saint-Denis, a very traditional and popular appellation that is sandwiched between the out-of-reach Gevrey Chambertin and the charming Chambolle-Musigny. Even with the same terroir, many winemakers’ content differs vastly in this plot, in any blind tasting, it’ll be really difficult to pin-point a Morey-Saint-Denis wine, although it does have a common character in my opinion; which is very strong earthy bouquet. Surprisingly, Aux Charmes possessed such a character, while Les Sorbets was more flamboyant. Both the bouquet was totally deceiving, as upon a sip, you’d be astonished what the bouquet told you was quite the opposite of the content! I’d describe Aux Charmes as a playful and cheerful wine, while Les Sorbets is the down-to-earth, honest wine. After drinking and spitting both bottles (I finished 2 bottles tonight!), my tendency leaned towards Aux Charmes as my favourite, however, I have to reserve my opinion, as I think Les Sorbets do have it’s own character and style, it possessed a charming character hidden behind the superficial front facing content, in the long run, Les Sorbets will outrun Aux Charmes. I’m pretty sure my opinion will stay in a decades’ time, why don’t you try it out and see if you share my sentiment? (5/2023)

Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars

Morey-Saint-Denis, being the smallest appellations of Cote-de-Nuits, is made up of 20 Premier Cru climats and 5 Grand Cru climats. Yearly production of only 1,500 bottles, I can assure you production is so miniscule, it’ll surely jack up the already very expensive burgundy prices. The wine is aged 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels. Knowing 2019 as a great vintage, I did not hesitate to decant it for 2 hours. Bouquet of very strong earthy notes, along with ripe cherry and leather. The interesting portion is the content; this wine is strong and powerful, yet not in a male chauvinistic way, rather in a superiority of woman style; The softness and finesse are stunning, in addition, it retained all the powerful character of a Morey-Saint-Denis styled wine. This wine is really meant to be kept for at least two decades to enjoy. I make a bold prediction; this wine will drink really stunningly in 40 years. (10/2022)
