Domaine Arnaud Baillot Pommard 2020 versus Arnaud Baillot Pommard 1er Cru Les Charmots 2020

I wanted to do a village level Pommard against a premier cru plot to see how much difference it was, as I got a lot of enquiries about the differences. In short, a world apart! The village of Pommard is situated between Volnay and Beaune, in the past, a lot of wine critics gave a very high rating for this village. Les Charmots is a plot located north of Pommard village. I have written notes for Les Charmots 2020 here (2020 Arnaud Baillot Pommard 1er Cru Les Charmots Rouge - 750ml | Fine Wines Pte Ltd). I will use a 3D description for you to visualize the difference between the village level and the premier cru. The village wine is like a young lady who has not reached matured age yet, perhaps a college student, as the content is a bit skinny with the lack of matured fruits. On the other hand, the premier cru wine is akin to a wise and very matured lady, perhaps holding a high post in the corporate world, with a steady hand. The content is fully matured with a style geared towards feminine elegance, very enjoyable. I highly recommend you to grab a bottle of premier cru Les Charmots, it’s truly a very enjoyable wine at a decent price. (9/24)

Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars
Les Charmots is a nice plot premier cru vineyard in the commune of Pommard, in the Cote de Beaune subregion of Burgundy’s Cote d’Or. Most producers produce well-rounded, approachable and classic Pommard wines, this plot is a good representation of Pommard classic style. Nose was redolent of black fruit and kirsch, finishing on a spicy note of cinnamon and clove. Palate is very appealing, the structure of soft yet fleshy characters, with the expression of ripe yet elegant fruits, is a good representation of this plot. The wine is showing a good potential wine for aging, it shall be kept well for the next decades or so, it shall turn lovely towards the end of the decade.
