2020 Philippe Colin Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes - 750ml
Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars
Les Chenevottes is situated at the edge of Chassagne-Montrachet directly below the premier cru sites of Les Chaumees and Les Vergers. Vine age is averaging from 45 years old with some ranging up to 80 years old. Aged in 12 months French oak, only 7 barrels produced per year, roughly 2,100 bottles. The vineyard is a stone’s throw from Grand Cru Le Montrachet, sharing similar exposure, soil, etc. The pedigree is as close as you can get to Grand Cru! Bouquet of mellow oak profile, never overpowering, very easy-going bouquet. Content is very gentleman style, it may not be a powerful wine, but it never needs to flesh its muscle to claim attention, perhaps more of a quiet achiever. I liked the acidity profile, neutral content and slightly saline taste, very clean and transparent. (8/2022)
Vinous - 94 Points
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru is very attractive on the nose with scents of mirabelle, almond, white chocolate and Granny Smiths, complex and involving. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Plenty of tension and energy in situ, quite saline on the finish with superb persistence. This is one of the best 2020s from Philippe Colin this vintage. (7/2022)
Allen Meadows Burghound - 93 Points
Smoky reduction completely masks the underlying fruit. The old vines are in evidence as there is excellent density to the delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly better vibrancy and detail while delivering excellent length on the citrusy, complex and nicely dry finale that is sneaky long. Good stuff that also has a commendable development track record. (6/2022)
