The 2022 Le C du Sec du Château Closiot is another excellent white wine from Jean-Marie Guffens. Evoking an elegant, complex and fresh bouquet of ripe pear, exotic fruits, nutmeg, vanilla pod and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, round and enveloping with a layered structure and a juicy core of fruit, concluding with a sweet finish with a touch of volatile acidity. While it may not be as exuberant as the 2023 vintage, and certainly not as much as its owner and winemaker, it remains a great effort. (4/2024)

This is made from 2/3 Semillon and the rest Sauvignon Gris with a little Sauvignon Blanc. It was vinified entirely in barrel with 25% new oak. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. The nose is smoky and complex in this year's C de Sec, a little matchstick reduction complementing notes of beeswax, baked apple and mandarin. Fleshy on the palate, with honeyed peach and lemon curd, there is more toasty struck flint in an energetic and impressively deep wine for a hot vintage. Long and spicy on the finish, Jean-Marie Guffens has woven his magic into this dry Barsac, it offers excellent value for money at this price point. (4/2023)
