Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars
The husband and wife team Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen formed Domaine Guffens Heynen. We need to talk a bit about Jean-Marie Guffens, he has his eccentric attitude, and a legendary winemaker from the Maconnais and has received many critical praises for producing “poor man’s white Burgundy.” Certainly with such high accolade we shall delve into his winemaking result. Macon Pierreclos comes from the wine producing region of Maconnais. My initial bouquet turned me off a little, as I smelled some chemical funk, and I thought it’s probably fertilizers being applied, but after a while, I noticed some changes, it turned into rusty copper, thus it’s mineral bouquet. After about an hour, the mineral bouquet went off and replaced by ripe fruits. Content is a generous amount of fruits, rich and thick but not overwhelming. The fruit quality is good with peonage oil, white flowers. The wine has a great backbone of acidity to support the fruits, thus the fruit and acidity partnership creates a great combustion. (10/2024)

The most approachable of Jean-Marie's 2022 domaine wines, the En Crazy is a pale lemony gold colour. The nose is packed with ripe stone fruits and a lick of sweet spice. The palate is a fleshy, succulent and moreish combination of peach, pineapple and pear, laced with baking spices and a hint of honey. This is silky and rounded, perfect to enjoy over the next decade. Satiny and generous, the 2022 Mâcon-Pierreclos En Crazy bursts with aromas of peonage oil, peach, white flowers, nutmeg and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, bright and textural, it's a giving, enveloping wine that will drink well out of the gates. (10/2023)
