The 2022 Philippe Colin Chassagne Montrachet is a brilliant expression of this prestigious appellation, showcasing everything we love about finely crafted white Burgundy. The nose opens with inviting aromas of white peach, Meyer lemon, and toasted hazelnut, drawing you into its layered complexity. On the palate, it strikes a stunning interplay between bright citrus and creamy texture, underscored by a flinty minerality that adds depth and sophistication. This is a wine of remarkable poise, seamlessly balancing richness and freshness while offering a long, elegant finish. Drinking beautifully now, it also has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next decade, making it a worthy addition to any serious collector’s cellar.
Philippe Colin's heritage is deeply intertwined with the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, where his family has resided for over 160 years. His father, Michel Colin-Deléger, is part of a long lineage that dates back to the 1850s. Philippe's connection to the land is palpable: "I'm deeply invested in terroir," he says. "Each vineyard site has its unique personality, and it's crucial to distinguish them." The Colin family tends to six to seven Premier Cru sites in Chassagne-Montrachet, and Philippe is constantly exploring new terroirs. His village wine, crafted from 15 parcels, showcases the exceptional limestone and calcareous clay soils, with high clay content, that define this renowned region. Situated below the Premier Cru slopes, these 35- to 40-year-old vines reap the benefits of this illustrious terroir.
