Wine With Bok - 9.25/10 Stars
The label implies the grapes are coming from a Lieu Dit (a village with naming rights) in Saint Veran. A blend of grapes coming from “Cote Rotie” vineyard in Davaye alongside Terres Noires. This is an unbelievable combustion of a great blend. I never failed to be amazed, the outcome was really luscious; bouquet of freshly squeezed fruit juice, with body predominantly low acidity mandarin oranges with softness and elegance. Frankly it’s not easy to make a village wine with such outcome, and credits must be given to the talented Guffens-Heynen for his talented winemaking skill.
Thomas Parker MW - 93 points
Crafted from grapes grown in the "Cote Rotie" vineyard, though the growers have been barred from using its name to prevent any confusion with Northern Rhone Syrah! Additionally, a small portion of juice hails from the "Terres Noires" vineyard, a site that Guffens previously bottled as a single vineyard wine until yields became too meager to sustain. As is customary, this wine exhibits an extraordinary depth and unquestionably ranks among the finest expressions of its appellation. A judicious 30% new oak contributes to its profile. In the vintage of 2022, this wine proves to be an absolute crowd-pleaser. Its nose captivates with a beautiful sheen of vanilla pod, gracefully overlaying notes of poached pear and peach blossom. The palate mirrors this glossiness, offering up seamlessly ripe fruit flavors, ranging from lush peach to invigorating citrus. While displaying a fleshy quality, complemented by a luscious buttery undertone, it maintains its freshness thanks to floral high tones that provide a harmonious balance. This wine is a delectable, moreish delight that can be enjoyed immediately upon release, yet promises to evolve gracefully with a few years of bottle aging.
