    Lehmann evaluation using White Burgundy

    Jean Dauvissat Fourchaume 2019

    Glasses involved:

Grassl: Very bad chemical funk, too focused, not spreadout

Grand Blanc 54 (machine made blanc/roses): Rim not too natural

Grand Blanc 64 (lightweight, handmade, blanc/roses): Natural fit, best

Grand Rouge 70 (lightweight, handmade, red wine):  Too focused

Synergie 75 (lightweight, handmade, universal): Light and lose focus

This is my 2nd evaluation of Lehmann white wine glasses, as this time round we have the machine made Grand Blanc 54 included as I really want to focus on the machine made glasses.

This time I used a 1er Cru to test, and out of my surprise, my past favorite glasses like Grassl performed really badly with both aroma and taste. Lehmann’s hand made stemware Grand Blanc 64 is really performing well, outranked all others in every aspect, my hats off to it.

This time round I also inserted the Grand Rouge 70 meant for red wine and see how it performed, as expected, it didn’t do well. Before taking my tests, I never study what glass is for what, I just lined them up to taste, so that it’s as natural as it can get without cheating.

For serious wine connoisseur, they still have to go for the Grand Blanc 64. If they want a universal glass, I think Synergie 75 is a good fit, but it certainly looks odd for red wine (I realized I didn’t use it for many wine evaluations). As such, for white wines, I still recommend the machine made Grand Blanc 54 for the price conscious.

    Lehmann evaluation using White Burgundy

    Jean Dauvissat Chablis Heritage 2021

    Glasses involved:

    Rovini (reference)

    Grassl (reference)

Lehmann Hommage 72 (actually for red wines)

Lehmann Synergie 75 (lightweight, hand made)

Lehmann Grand Blanc 64 (lightweight, hand made)

Lehmann Universal Absolus 46 (machine made)

Interesting to use Jean Dauvissat Chablis Heritage 2021 on these glasses, as Heritage has this very soft, feminine bouquet that gives very signature aroma in different glasses, it’s difficult to miss the bouquet.

Grassl bouquet was used as a reference. Only Lehmann’s Grand Blanc bouquet was acceptable initially, but it also faded off towards the later stage. Surprisingly, Hommage (meant for red wines) bouquet is quite good as well, but I need to rule it out since it’s a red wine glass.

Palate wise, Rovini was actually quite disappointing, ranked almost last, really unimpressive. Grassl is still a reference stemware due to it’s thin rim. Surprisingly Lehmann’s Grand Blanc was really made for white wines, as somehow the taste reached almost every corner of the mouth feel and palate. Lehmann Synergie was disappointing, a big bowl with a small rim, the circumference of the rim is too small, thus the roundness of the rim is very bad, very awkward for the tongue. The universal glass was ok, didn’t have a big impact on impression.
