Olivier Guyot Les Sorbets Morey St Denis 2019

A battle between two stronghold labels we carry, both from Morey-Saint-Denis, a very traditional and popular appellation that is sandwiched between the out-of-reach Gevrey Chambertin and the charming Chambolle-Musigny.

Even with the same terroir, many winemakers’ content differs vastly in this plot, in any blind tasting, it’ll be really difficult to pin-point a Morey-Saint-Denis wine, although it does have a common character in my opinion; which is very strong earthy bouquet. Surprisingly, Aux Charmes possessed such a character, while Les Sorbets was more flamboyant.

Both the bouquet was totally deceiving, as upon a sip, you’d be astonished what the bouquet told you was quite the opposite of the content! 

I’d describe Aux Charmes as a playful and cheerful wine, while Les Sorbets is the down-to-earth, honest wine. After drinking and spitting both bottles (I finished 2 bottles tonight!), my tendency leaned towards Aux Charmes as my favourite, however, I have to reserve my opinion, as I think Les Sorbets do have it’s own character and style, it possessed a charming character hidden behind the superficial front facing content, in the long run, Les Sorbets will outrun Aux Charmes.
