This property was bought over by JP Moueix (the owner of Petrus), and the plot was situated between two stunning Pomerol properties, La Fleur and Petrus, thus the name. It was supposed to contain 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc, but tonight’s tasting with 9 other wine connoisseur, including an MW, in a blind tasting, nobody came close to guessing this flight came from the 60s, as the wine was so young and tannic, most people thought that it was from 80s or early 90s, provenance in play here. I tasted the wine over 2 evenings to formulate my view.
Put aside 1961 which was always the preferred vintage in the ‘60s, as it was untouchable even 2 days span of tasting. The 61 was stunning with sweet and chunky fruity palate, a big wine by any definition, with slight eucalyptus note, it was big, seductive and sexy, quality is stunning. As for the 64, Initially the 64 had an upper hand drinking next to the 66, which was rich, ripe and with good length, more fruits than the 66. However, the next day 66 overtook the 64 with more endurance, remaining status quo while the 64 went downhill. It was unexpected outcome as even many professionals think the 64 was better than the 66, it appeared that the 66 has more stamina to go on for another 3 to 5 decades while 64 was perhaps at its peak right now.
