1969 Chateau Trotanoy Pomerol
DOWNHILL
Unfortunately my favorite cult wine didn't live up to my expectations this time round. After 47 years, it started to throw tantrums and become cranky.
Unbelievably the nose was almost muted upon first pour, slowly it blossom into mushrooms.
Palate shone for 1 minute with good fruits, and then it went downhill as fast as it could. The fruit turned dried initially, then weakened out, finally the wine tasted more like tea leaves than wine. Nevertheless it still went through 47 years of hardship!

From a poor vintage, I awarded it 5 stars for its effort. Of course can't be compared to the Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion 66 that I drank side by side, but it was really not far off. I decided to decant it to see how long it can hold in the decanter more than 3 hours for a 69! Perfumed and vegetal nose, the palette keeps improving with sweetness due to air, at its peak the sweetness came with very smooth and good depth. It's really hard to believe this 45 year old wine came from a poor vintage. Kudos to Trotanoy!
