1979 Laira The Brand Family Of Coonawarra Shiraz
This was the oldest Aussie wine I ever had. It was served double blind, I initially detected very faint floral, fragrant, old world oak on the nose. The palette was surprisingly pleasant, forward, very rich wine like very ripe cherries, although it was pretty single dimension and a tad too simple. So I was yelling it has to be a single grape variety from old world, most likely merlot, but I really couldn't think of any part of the world produces aged merlot. I was totally shock to learn it was a Shiraz?!?!!
