1981 Chateau Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) St Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classe "B"
I could not understand why they could be rewarded with 100 points in 1990 when just 9 years earlier, being a decent vintage for the Bordeaux right bank for 1981, this Chateau Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse) did not show the pedigree of a wine that can turn out to be potentially a full score wine. When I review a wine, I always want to see historical performance, as I do not believe a one-off production to become a superstar. Assuming a decent vintage for 1981, I decanted the wine for 1.5 hours. A whiff and I thought nothing spectacular, a bit woody, dried fruits and slightly elevated acidity. A sip again produced no flare, lacking good flavour and excitement. I could not find too much fault with the wine, basically prim and proper, just that it’s performing decently but without much excitement.
