1981 Haut Marbuzet St Estephe Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnel
Sandwiched between Cos d’Estournel and Montrose, this vineyard is classified as a Grand Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 1978. It lived up with its status, and in my opinion the quality easily goes on par with second or third classified growth. I am unable to find fault with this aged Bordeaux, presented in a really pristine and well-tailored manner, a very gentleman drink. Bouquet of exceptional finesse aged Bordeaux aroma with slight cigar box and very ripe red fruits. Drinking very well with great balance of fruits and acidity, very refined and elegant, truly showing the true color of a well-aged Bordeaux. In fact, towards the final glasses, lurking tannins are showing up and that implies this wine can easily be aged for another decade.
