1983 Chateau Palmer Margaux
DOWNHILL
1983 was a great Margaux appellation vintage, most Margaux labels did well. I was expecting Palmer to perform well in this Bordeaux 83 blind tasting, no doubt it did extremely well initially, which I rated it on par with Ch Margaux. Unfortunately it didn't last long enough before I downgraded it, thus it was only a flash show, no stamina. Bouquet of perfume, ripe fruits and tobacco. It was structured, pleasant, acidic, moderately long finishing, easy. Downside was slightly lemon taste.

HIGH HOPES BUT DASHED
Was having very high hope for this bottle tonight, coz in a blind tasting of Palmer 83 versus Ch Margaux 83 two years ago, I picked the Palmer as a winner. Tonight's bottle (ex chateau provenance) disappointed me slightly. Extremely leathery with doses of dark chocolate and coffee on the nose. There was elevated acidity even though the great elegance, richness, layers and balance ingredients were there. Took time to open up in the glass though. One of the great Palmer but I prefer 05
