1983 Haut Brion Pessac Leognan
BOTTLE CONDITION
I had many Haut Brion 83 in the past, and was always impressed with it, but for some strange reason this bottle in the Bordeaux 83 blind tasting came in almost 2nd from behind, puzzled.
Atypical nose of sourness and acidity started off, then slight tobacco leaves and smoke. Palate was tannic and harsh, woody, not smooth, wine not integrated!
With description like this, I don't know why. Was it a bad bottle? Obviously not. A corked bottle? No wet cupboard or dampness. Still puzzled.
7 July 2014
Dark ruby color with lightening at the edge. Intense, persistent aromas of saddle leather, roasted herbs, scorched earth, and sweet black currant fruit were followed by complex flavors of minerals, spice box, and cedar. The nose is a class by itself. The palette is still balanced & powerful.
