1985 Chasse Spleen
Moulis-en-Medoc
Cru Bourgeois
Had this bottle to pair with my Mediterranean diet for lunch, a pretty suitable pairing. I need to stress that one should not judge the content by labels, not especially with a Cru Bourgeois. I am able to name a dozen Cru Bourgeois quality easily exceeding classified growths, and Chasse Spleen is definitely one of them. Being selected as one of the six Crus Exceptionnels in the Cru Bourgeois classification, quality easily on par with cru classe standard. A whiff and a sip, I’m able to tell the character is really typical of the 1985 vintage. The content is full of energy, a very expansive wine, it may not have the length to sing along, but the flavor is deep and penetrating, very enjoyable especially when my avocado fats goes pairing with the wine, very enjoyable! Don’t underestimate the potential of this label, they can age as well as any cru classe wines, and I have no doubt this bottle can still age for easily a decade or two, as the obvious tannins are still lurking around in my wine glass!
