1985 Chateau Dauzac Margaux
Chateau Dauzac is a fifth growth property for 1855 classification. The chateau is a really under the radar property. After almost 30 years of drinking wines for me, this was my first bottle of Dauzac! Bordeaux is all about vintage, thus for a superb vintage like the 1985, I will not pass up any chance to acquire a bottle of any Bordeaux wine, and I could not care less about the labels. As a proof of my faith with 1985 vintage, I bought not just a bottle of Dauzac, but 36 bottles of it, with the intention to share with my customers a blind investment but will turn out to be a fantastic bottle! I was absolutely spot on! This wine requires a decanting of 2 hours to fully open up, otherwise it’s so shy and hide all the gem. Bouquet of almost Paulliac alike of pencil lead shaving, probably derived from the fine oaks they were using. Content was with the stunning Bordeaux 1985 character surfacing, basically ripe, forward and elegant fruits. Not exactly a Margaux styled character, more like a Saint Julien to me.
