1985 Chateau Pavie
Amongst our line up of 1985 vintages, Malescot St Exupery, Les Forts de Latour, Lynch Bages and Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion, this wine was very distinct in its smell. It lacked the heavy notes of cigar, cedar wood and leather that the other wines from Pauillac and Cheval Blanc Saint Emilion developed.
It had an inviting smell of chocolate, smoky oak, mint and black cherry. Palate still possessed some light red fruits but with lively acidity and smooth tannins. We decanted it for 30 minutes and kept it there for the 2 hours duration of the tasting, and it still held till the end. Powerful stuff!
