1989 Chateau Coutet Barsac 1er Grand Cru Classe
COCONUT!
Coutet, a Barsac in Sauternes, was the only village in Sauternes that was allowed to use the Barsac name on the label. In general, Sauternes tend to be a little fuller than Barsac. Loads of coconut hit my nose upon a whiff, not often for Coutet! Followed by toffee, sweet apricot and ripe pineapple. Sweet but not overly done, I love the balance of the wine, with stunning acidity in the background masked by sweetness, ripe apricot, toffee, cooked pineapple. It has the potential to age further.

LONELY BARSAC
Not many drinkers appreciated Barsac/Sauternes wines nowadays. I drink it for the appreciation of the hard work. A grapevine sometimes made as little as a glass of this sweet dessert wine, and charged for a song, sadly. Elegant nose, toffee, the nose was a but disjointed with the palette. Huge sharp pineapple palette, elegant sweetness, melon, rich, sweet apricot, slightly bitter (tasted like Eau De Vie that's blend of cognac), creamy and orange peels.
