1989 Chateau La Croix de Gay Pomerol
RIPE VINTAGE?
The nose was showing the ripeness of the wine, just for a moment, and then faded to the background with smoke and slight vegetal taking over the limelight. This was only a hint of the ripe vintage! Palette wise, the bitter coffee dominated, coupled with dry fruits and there's still s high level of tannins lurking around. At 12.5% alcohol, it certainly didn't taste like a hot, ripe vintage at all. What has gone wrong? Probably the winemaker's skill!
