1995 Malescot St Exupery Margaux
I only decanted it briefly for 30 mins as dinner was around the corner, obviously a bad move. A whiff and it was muted, I was disappointed, as normally the bouquet should tell me something about the wine. A sip and I quite liked the content, with very chunky fruits. My dinner progressed very slowly, so the decanting actually stretched for about 2 hours, and the charm came; the fruits grew big, chunky, yet soft and feminine, it had a lot of a great vintage Margaux appellation character. Surprisingly after 2 hours of decanting in the decanter, I still find a lot of tannins and grips with my last few sips. This vintage and this label can directly challenge Chateau Palmer Margaux 1995 and even Chateau Margaux 1995, I’m sure if you put all three together for blind tasting, Malescot will stand out!
