1998 Le Macchiole Messorio
100% BLIND MERLOT NIGHT!
It was borderline 4 stars to me. There were like 4 vintages of Messorio tonight at this merlot tasting, and nothing from Bordeaux! I get a load of vegetal, mint and eucalyptus on the nose to start off with. The palette was big, very thick and inky, almost like squid ink! A very young wine, looks like it's going to age well. I was guessing the vintage to be post 2000 and it's probably a new world wine, most likely American. Totally did not expect it to be an Italian.
