1998 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux
A left bank vintage from Bordeaux 1998 is considered a weak vintage for me, although I do have a lot of respect for first growth producer, this second wine only mildly impressed me, particularly after drinking the 1995 vintage which has been really stunning (Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux 1995 - Fine Wines SG). This 1998 vintage can’t be compared to the 1995 vintage, although still quite good, but just not the best I have tasted. Bouquet of complexity and powerful, certainly summer floral notes. Content was a tad light with hints of violet lingering around, very typical of a Chateau Margaux characters, so I do suspect the grapes sorting are most likely rejected grapes for the Grand Vin that goes into the second wine.
