1999 Chateau Lascombes Margaux 2nd Growth Grand Cru Classe
Lascombes have not been living up to it’s expectation being a second growth, it’s been struggling with the quality for unknown reason. However, not all is lost, 1999 is a very decent vintage for Margaux appellation, I have drunk some top growth like Chateau Margaux and Palmer from 1999, quality is assured. Of course, we cannot expect Lascombes to be on par with top growth, but quality is still decent. I decanted the wine for 3 hours after taking a whiff and a sip initially; the wine is not in harmony; the bouquet and body has elevated acidity while the body is a bit too light. However, the evolution after 3 hours is surprisingly stunning, a load of changes after the decanting. First off, bouquet of acidity has disappeared while the aroma is full of graphite. Content wise, the feminine character of softness jumped out from the stemware, with relatively matured characters somehow not lightweight anymore, turned leathery thereafter.
