1999 De l’Oree Ermitage Blanc Chapoutier
This was definitely a strange white that I don’t encounter too often, as the bouquet really put me off with some kind of very rubbery or burned fire wood character. However, the palette was a totally different story, it was really clean, pure and loads of honeysuckle tones. This was quite different from a normal Rhone white although I admitted I don’t drink enough Rhone whites to formulate a definitive view. Nonetheless, it was still really enjoyable to go with some oily food like Peking duck.
