1999 Fontaine Gagnard Criots Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru
SECOND CHANCE
The previous bottle I had was with some kind of unknown advanced maturity, borderline a premox character but surely wasn’t premox. Glad I have a 2nd chance to try another bottle and I was happy that there’s no hint of oxidation, perhaps the last bottle was a one off.
Nose of initial straw character but quickly morphed into baked lemon. I enjoyed the palate as it was really soft and transparent, with multiple layers of complexity and quite rich. Kudos to great wine!
I have drank many bottles of Fontaine Gagnard Criots Batard Montrachet including 2000, 2002, 2007 and they never fail to impress me! My past experience was always a Top Rated 5 star wine if not the lowest 4.5 star! So much charm down to last sip! Fresh in my memory now, I still remember the 2000 vintage took my breathe away; beauty was the softness of wine on the palate, felt like butter melting immediately on my tongue, coupled with elegance. How not to fall in love with such beauty?
This Criots Batard Montrachet 1999 bottle is going to be another killer too! Big on charm!
