Drinking side by side next to Haut Brion 1999, this La Mission Haut Brion 1999 paled in comparison. From a whiff, one can tell that it’s a very chauvinistic wine already, so man, so chunky. Definitely more powerful and rough than Haut Brion’s elegance, to the extent that I will describe this wine as harsh. I really didn’t enjoy it very much although this is probably a personal preference. Interestingly my friend didn’t believe my comment, so he tested me blind. With a whiff and a sip, I was able to identify which glass was the Haut Brion and which was the La Mission Haut Brion. Thus, the style was really unmistakable.
