2000 Chateau Lascombes Margaux
This property has not lived up to expectation for many vintages, however, when a great vintage like 2000 popped up, one has to give it a try to decide whether this property can produce good wines, and thus lived up to the 1855 classification of being a ? I did not have time to decant, and I would recommend decanting for 2 hours. Without decanting I was able to observe the evolution of the wine in the glass. A whiff and it was signature Margaux character of cocoa, dark chocolate and chunky yet undeveloped fruits. A sip and I can tell there are loads of potential in this wine, acidity veered towards the high side (but disappeared with decanting), the fruits were very matured, yet retaining a shade of shy and feminine character. I could not find fault with this wine, as it’s really prim and proper wine coming from a great vintage. Based on tonight’s tasting, I will not write off this label as an under rated second growth.
