2000 Monbousquet St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
I had the 1998 vintage and I boldly declared it as a first growth quality . Bear in mind that 1998 was a much better vintage than even the well known 2000 vintage, as 1998 right bank was excellent, but 2000 was great in the overall Bordeaux production. Monbousquet 2000 pulled another surprise to me, this time it was not just a bold and powerful 1998 version, in fact, it has morphed into an extremely different character – feminine! After decanting it for 2 hours, I found the content totally shocking, as the once bold and rugged Monbousquet turned into a very soft and feminine character, one can easily be fooled as a wine coming from Margaux appellation, and the style closely cloned Palmer, just to quote a similarly styled Bordeaux, while at a fraction of Palmer’s price.
