2004 Dom Perignon
LEGEND
It’s hard to find fault with Dom Perignon, one of the best champagnes out there that’s reasonably priced. 04 wasn’t the best vintages like 02 or 06, but it was really high up there.
Great nose of ripe, slightly flinty and smoky. Palate really was impressive. Surprisingly this bottle didn’t have much bubbles, strong lemony character was obvious, just when I thought it was an advanced bottle, the true color showed up; multiple dimensions: initially very ripe, rich and forward, turned lemon & honey.

DRINK CHAMPAGNE NOT FROM FLUTES Many drinkers think drinking champagne has to be from the flute, which is a misconception. Nowadays the nose also plays an important role in drinking, so I'd prefer a white wine glass. This Dom Perignon 04 had a charred yeasty nose which is a bit too funky and I took half a star away. No fault with palette, which is rich on the taste, fresh and precise. Optimal period to drink this vintage now.
