2006 Morgante Don Antonio Nero d’Avola
You know, if I have Italian food, my tendency is to go with Italian wines! Why? Bordeaux is probably having too much of a finesse, doesn’t quite match the ruggedness of the Italian food. This Sicily wine is a perfect match for the rugged Italian food. I confessed I cooked a Lasagna tonight, the heavy cheeses with the baked flavor, it’s hard not to have an Italian wine to go with it. Surprisingly, the nose was yelling dark fruits. The palette was even more extreme; red fruits dominated the content! I was taken aback by the sweetness, along with huge amount of ripe cherries. Almost reminiscent of a Chianti or Sangiovese wine. It was really pleasant with ripe fruits, not much tannins and grips to deal with. Was a perfect drink to go with a Lasagne or spaghetti, highly recommended for the pairing!
