2009 Verget Pommard 1er Cru Saucilles
RAISINS
In a blindtasting of 2009 Verget wines from Pommard and Beaune, I initally ranked this Saucilles high on my list but changed my mind in the end. There were loads of vanilla, sweet and ripe red fruits on the nose with a hint of spice. The palate was definitely bigger and bolder compared to the rest.
But after about 30 minutes, it completely changed its tune. Instead of the sweet smelling fruits, it evolved into a sharp raisin smell, which I found unpleasant, hence lowering my score for this wine.
