2010 Langmeil The Freedom 1843 Shiraz
FREEDOM SHIRAZ
Christian Auricht was escaping persecution in Prussia and found his freedom in Barossa Valley, where he began this vineyard back in 1843, hence the name. In typical Australian fashion, it was using a screw cap.
It actually smelled of sweet syrupy chocolate with dark berries and licorice. If I had smelled this without looking, I would have thought it a dessert wine. It felt very sweet and heavy on the palate, almost syrupy, but not over cloying. Interesting to give it a try.
