2011 Fontaine Gagnard Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers
IMAGINE PHLEGM
For a 2011 wine, I have high expectations, as I once had a Chassagne Montrachet La Romanee 2011 that blew the roof away, plus I have attended an event whereby we featured 2011 white burgundies, the structure and acidity was mind blowing. For a big name like Fontaine Gagnard, I would expect more, but I was met with mild disappointment. The nose was telling me very ripe fruits, so I immediately had an impression that it’ll be a fruit driven wine. Man, how wrong I was! The palette was so mild that I thought there was almost no flavor in it, and hardly any ripe fruits! After drinking half a bottle, I realized the taste were all concentrated around my throat rather than at the tip of the tongue. It was more like phlegm, and only showed up at the throat level, albeit thick fruits. I must admit I was really surprised by the concentrated taste only showing up at the back palette, this must have been a unique phenomenon
