2011 Joseph Phelps Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay
Sonoma Coast
A whiff and I thought I walked into a fruit juice store, with predominant orange blossom fragrance along with some summer flower. A sip and I was taken aback with the obvious elevated acidity, a bit too high to my liking, and undeniable orange juice taste as well. The fruits were not speaking up and hiding well beneath the acidity. I let it warm up in the glass, the fruit turned a bit bolder with the acidity mellowed down and shy away in the background, now the new world chardonnay character has surfaced with some oak influence. Drinking decently although I much prefer a low-end white burgundy over the new world style, personal preference.
