2011 Kumeu River Hunting Hill Chardonnay
The Hunting Hill site gives a purity of character that, in its youth, displays a tight and crisp palate which needs some bottle age to reveal the power and concentration that lies beneath the surface.
I heard so much about this wine from Kiwi, everyone was raving about it. I had a sip, and was very disappointed with the fame it has garnered; yes it was fruity, more like a fruit bomb, friendly and mineral, but absolutely no elegance nor finesse. Guess I drank too much good white burgundies, it's really difficult to get used to a rough, almost outback, white wine. I'd pick a premier Cru white burg anytime. I guess new world will really need to learn a bit about finesse and elegance and not just muscle.
