2011 Sattlerhof Gamlitzer Morillon
WEIRD CHARDONNAY
Probably my first bottle of wine from Austria, so I don’t really understand this country’s wines well enough. But certainly on a blind tasting, I would think this is a dry version of Gewurstraminer or something from Alsace or Mosel. Obviously when I was told it was Chardonnay grape varietal, my jaws dropped. How can Chardonnay grapes be so dry and totally lacked the typical Chardonnay oily and fruity style? Even though the wine is dry, surprisingly the sweetness surfaced like dried fruit.
