2012 Duchessa Lia Barolo
MASCULINE
Before recent technology and skills improved, Barolos were known to be wines with very harsh tannins that would need as much as 15 years or more to just be drinkable. But now, there are producers who make Barolos that can be drunk younger.
Right off the bat, there’s a sense of masculinity in the aroma of this wine. Nose had more pronounced cherries, black pepper spice, mocha coffee notes and slight chocolate. On the palate, the tannin was more austere and structured compared to the Barbaresco.
