2014 Chateau Beauregard Pomerol
A property co-owned by the Cathiard family (owner of Smith Haut Lafitte), I’m a big fan of Smith Haut Lafitte, thus I also express confidence with Beauregard, a vineyard bordering Saint Emilion. Pomerol produces majority merlot grapes, although Beauregard uses as much as 30% of Cabernet Franc in their wine as well. A whiff and I get overwhelming notes of butter, implying they use significant amount of oak in the wine, alongside, stewed fruits and ripe fruits were prominent. Body consisted of red (cherries) and blue fruits (e.g. blueberries), while still drinkable, it’s slightly harsh at 8 years old, still at it’s totally infant stage. I’d recommend to keep this away for another 12 to 20 years in order to fully appreciate it’s potential.
