2015 PYCM Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Grand Montagne
Chassagne Montrachet was almost always overshadowed by Puligny Montrachet, as if it produced inferior wines. In general, a sweeping statement is yes, however, you can still find great gems in Chassagne Montrachet, for example, this PYCM from the 1er Cru plot of only 8 ha Grand Montagne. PYCM was the leader that many winemakers chased after their style, so they do have a wide moat of followers. I enjoyed the starting bouquet of very faint floral and relatively sharp acidity. The body was completely different from what the bouquet was telling me, it was extremely soft and feminine, faint lemony juice surfaced at a later stage, and it was produced with extremely little oak influence, and that was the first time I’ve encountered a Chassagne Montrachet presented in this manner, my friend told me that was very PYCM style.
